Before CTE was proposed, planning for the Sembawang Expressway started. Running from Nee Soon via Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, to Jalan Toa Payoh, it will then be connected to Central Expressway, which did not materialise on 27 May 1979.
The Sembawang Expressway, will be completed in 1982 to reduce traffic congestion at Toa Payoh. Further extension to Thomson Road/Norfolk Road, when completed in 1984, will also reduce traffic jams at Toa Payoh.

Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) is one of the six units of the ACS Family of Schools. The Anglo-Chinese School has 125 years of history, which began with the vision and passion of one man, Bishop William Fitzjames Oldham. At the time, little was offered by way of education in the city-port and he wanted to provide an education for the many boys he saw wandering aimlessly in the streets. On 1 st March 1886, he founded Anglo-Chinese School in a shophouse in Amoy Street with 13 students.
ACS (Barker Road) was established on 1 January 1994 as a full government-aided school catering to both Primary and Secondary students. The purpose of establishing a full school in the ACS Family was to cater to the feeder pupils from 2 primary schools, who could not gain admission to ACS (Independent) but wished to continue with an ACS secondary education. Today, ACS (Barker Road)'s role in the Family of Schools has not changed.

Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) is one of the seven educational institutions of the ACS Family of Schools. The Anglo-Chinese School was founded by the Methodist missionary, William Fitzjames Oldham. William Oldham arrived in Singapore on 7 February 1885 with other Methodist missionaries. Through a Chinese gentleman who had joined the Methodist Church, Reverend Oldham was invited to the Celestial Reasoning Association. The Association was founded by businessman Mr Tan Keong Saik and was dedicated to developing proficiency in English. Reverend Oldham offered to give a lecture on astronomy. Reverend Oldham so impressed the businessmen present that he eventually received invitations to be their language tutor. After consulting with his wife Marie, Reverend Oldham offered to educate their sons instead.
